Class Descriptions

Tap

Tap is an exciting rhythmic exercise and dance form which is enjoyable to both kids and adults. Rooted in African-American History, tap offers a variety of styles and techniques. Students will realize results in dance movement after a minimum of classes. The classes stress the basics of tap and build into combinations which are great to watch and delightful to hear. Try tap for fun and fitness.

Jazz

Jazz combines many styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance to ballet. Rhythm, upon which all dance forms depend, is particularly integral to jazz dance. The first half of class consists of exercises to stretch and tone muscles and develop support for proper stress-free alignment of the skeletal structure. Using jazz, soul, R&B, ethnic and pop music, jazz classes are a great work-out and a fun way to release tension while attaining a body awareness that can be applied to everyday activities.

Ballet

Being that ballet is a core subject in all dance training, students will be educated and challenged to continually grow and develop their technique. Ballet training will also work on providing grace, strength, poise, balance and flexibility which will help improve students’ training in other subjects and activities. At an advanced level, ballet students may have the opportunity to go on pointe and have more opportunities to study the unique and beautiful style of ballet performance.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop In the first introductory levels, the staple steps of hip hop are explored. A foundation is set as well as introducing dancers to a funkier side of dance. A challenge for many students is breaking out of their comfort zone, and is overcome through a self-expressive dance circle at the end of the class. As the levels progress, different movements and styles are explored as their age and ability increases. In the higher levels, there is less focus on the staple steps and more of an exploration of various styles through a foundation of strong technique and musicality. Age appropriate music is always selected for each level, keeping each class a fun and exciting environment for all!

Acro

Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Blending gymnastics and dance skills, our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration.

Lyrical & Contemporary

Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motions that tell a story.  Contemporary is similar to lyrical and incorporates elements of modern dance to represent ideas, emotions, and self-expression. Students will learn lyrical & contemporary technique along with how to express emotion through movement.

Pointe

An advanced form of Ballet technique done on special Pointe shoes that allows dancers to go up on their toes. Pointe classes are by teacher recommendation only.
